Summary
HOY will launch its first sitcom, “Your Security Guard Lee Bo-on” (《你的保安李寶安》), on Monday, 26 October, airing from Monday to Thursday at 8pm against TVB’s “Come Home Love: Three Generations of Sweetness” in the same slot. At a media screening held on 23 October, reporters were shown episodes one to four and the set of the Lin Hoi Peak security office, where the story’s main action unfolds. Director Ho Cheuk-tin (何爵天) said he does not see the new show as directly comparable with TVB’s current sitcom, and instead cited the classic “Family Squad” (“卡拉屋企”) as the benchmark he admires. The first week’s episodes introduce five main guards, pack in rapid-fire one-liners and celebrity gags, and tease more guest appearances still to come.
Key Points
- The series stars Lee Sheung-ching, Lo Chung-yan, Wong Yiu-wang, Tsang Yui-chi and Mak Pui-tung, with Ho Cheuk-tin directing HOY’s first sitcom
- HOY screened the first four episodes on 23 October and opened the Lin Hoi Peak security-office set, whose props include wallpapers of Mao Hamasaki and Takuya Kimura
- Wong Yiu-wang’s character “Russian Soup” is secretly the estate owner’s son, while Lo Chung-yan’s heartbroken “But Ho-choi” quickly takes an interest in him
- Tsang Yui-chi said he barely noticed Ho calling cut during a close scene with Mao Hamasaki, while Ho joked the actress looked “wrapped in a padded jacket”.
- Ho said the script was developed with a brain trust that included Philip Yung, and credited Yung with the line about Louis Koo’s girlfriend becoming Jessica Hester Hsuan
Why It Matters
The launch gives Hong Kong viewers a rare new locally made sitcom in prime time, in a format long dominated by TVB. It also shows HOY trying to compete through sharper adult humour, industry in-jokes and a rotating cameo strategy rather than copying the established family-sitcom formula.
