A female internet user claimed on social media platform Threads that she was admitted to HKU's Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) programme with a best six subjects score of 40.5 in the DSE, below the published minimum of 42 points. HKU's Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine issued a statement on August 6 refuting the claim, stating that no applicant with 40.5 points was admitted through JUPAS this year. The faculty expressed serious concern over the false and misleading information and reserved the right to take legal action. The user, who claimed to be from St. Paul's Co-educational College, has since become unsearchable on Threads.

This incident highlights the vulnerability of university admissions to misinformation on social media platforms, which can damage institutional credibility and mislead prospective students.
