Summary
Sammi Cheng (鄭秀文) said she was left with only gratitude and emotion after watching husband Andy Hui (許志安) complete his Hong Kong Coliseum concerts earlier this month, calling his return to the stage after seven difficult years deeply moving. Speaking at a jewellery brand store opening in Tsim Sha Tsui on October 22, she said the three shows belonged to Hui and his fans, while she saw herself as a low-key supporter rather than the focus. Cheng added that she has been replaying concert highlight clips and would support any decision by Hui to launch a “part two” after positive audience response and online backing. She also said the couple spent more time talking backstage than celebrating, reflecting on his path back to the stage and the audience’s acceptance.
Key Points
- At the October 22 opening event in Tsim Sha Tsui, Cheng appeared as a ribbon-cutting guest wearing jewellery worth HK$5 million.
- Cheng said Hui had not staged a concert for 11 years and had gone through seven years of major personal and professional challenges before returning
- She rejected suggestions she had been heavily managing family ties or backstage arrangements, saying family relations were already close and Hui’s sincerity did the work
- Cheng said her three elder sisters attended Hui’s Hong Kong Coliseum concerts earlier this month, and she viewed their support as natural rather than orchestrated
- After the shows, the couple kept celebrations simple, eating Vietnamese pho the next morning and a chicken chop rice box later, while spending substantial time talking
Why It Matters
For Hong Kong entertainment audiences, Cheng’s remarks frame Hui’s comeback less as a publicity exercise than as a gradual rebuilding of trust through live performance and audience response. Her public endorsement, combined with talk of a possible second leg, suggests the market may be receptive to further shows if momentum continues
