Summary
The Cleveland Cavaliers make their NBA Cup debut on Saturday morning Hong Kong time (8:30am, live on ViuTV Channel 99) in a high-stakes Eastern Conference Group B matchup against the Philadelphia 76ers at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse . The Cavaliers enter with a 3-1 home record, having beaten the Brooklyn Nets, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Washington Wizards, while suffering a narrow 5-point loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder . This game carries added significance as a revenge opportunity—their season-opening regular season clash ended in a 106-114 road defeat to these very 76ers . Philadelphia arrives as the league's hottest team with an 80% win rate and momentum from a 98-93 cup victory over last season's champions, the New York Knicks . The matchup features two star-studded rosters competing for early supremacy in Group B.
Key Points
- Cleveland's home court has been fortress-like, posting a 3-1 record including wins over Brooklyn, Minnesota, and Washington
- Philadelphia's "five-star lineup" includes LeBron James, Tyrese Maxey, VJ Edgecombe, Jaylen Brown, and Joel Embiid
- The 76ers won the season opener between these teams 106-114, with Cleveland now seeking home revenge
- Philadelphia's opening cup win came without Jaylen Brown, yet all four remaining starters scored in double digits
- Veteran guard James Harden, 37, took a pay cut to stay with Cleveland and chase a championship before retirement
Why It Matters
This matchup serves as a litmus test for both franchises' championship credentials—the Cavaliers' interior defense anchored by Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley must contain MVP candidate Joel Embiid, while Philadelphia's new "super team" chemistry will be tested on the road against a motivated opponent. For Hong Kong viewers tuning in at 8:30am, this game offers a glimpse of whether the 76ers' star-studded roster can maintain their early-season dominance or if the Cavaliers can execute a statement upset on their home court.
