Why It Matters
For Hong Kong readers, the developments show how a major typhoon can quickly affect not only transport and schools but also military scheduling and high-profile cultural events across Taiwan. The postponement of the Golden Bell Awards and the staggered local closure decisions also matter to travellers, media workers and businesses with cross-strait or regional plans tied to Taipei.
