Summary
Barcelona continued their remarkable start to the 2026-27 La Liga season with a commanding 3-0 victory over Getafe at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys on Saturday night. The win marks only the second time in the club's storied history that they have begun a league campaign with eight consecutive victories, the first instance being in the 2013/14 season. Summer acquisition Antony Gordon, who arrived from Newcastle United for 80 million euros (approximately 700 million Hong Kong dollars), finally opened his Barcelona account with a goal after just one minute of play, ending his barren run across eight appearances in all competitions. Gabriel Jesus, signed from Arsenal for 10 million euros (approximately 88 million Hong Kong dollars) earlier in the transfer window, added a second goal midway through the first half, while Jules Kounde completed the scoring after the interval. Raphinha, Barcelona's leading marksman this season, missed the match through injury, but the hosts showed no lack of firepower without him. The victory provides perfect preparation for Wednesday morning's Champions League encounter away to Galatasaray. Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid kept pace at the top of the table with a hard-fought 2-1 away win over Alaves, with Alessandro Cammarata and Christian Romero finding the net, leaving them five points adrift of Barcelona.

Why It Matters
Barcelona's imperious form sends a strong message to their rivals in both domestic and European competition. The clinical efficiency demonstrated against Getafe, particularly with key striker Raphinha absent, reveals a squad capable of winning matches through different avenues. With Wednesday's Champions League clash against Galatasaray on the horizon, Hansi Flick's side appear well-positioned to build on their domestic momentum on the continental stage. The performance also validates Barcelona's significant investment in Gordon, whose early-season struggles had drawn scrutiny over his hefty price tag.
