A surveillance video circulating on Saturday shows a man suspected of stealing boxed merchandise from a shopfront inside the In's Point mall in Yau Ma Tei. In the footage and still images shared online, the man appears to place goods into a black bag, notices only after a few steps that his shorts have slipped and exposed his underwear, then pulls them back up before leaving.
Key Points
- on.cc reported the clip was circulating on 7 November, while Sing Tao said the roughly 31-second video had been shared on Threads on 6 November.
- The incident was reported to have taken place at In's Point in Yau Ma Tei, a shopping mall described by Sing Tao as a well-known toy shopping centre.
- The suspect was described as wearing a black-and-white top, black shorts and black sports shoes, and carrying a black bag during the suspected theft
- The post alleged he stole a box of cards or toy cards worth about HK$1,650 from near the shop entrance and suggested other shop operators should stay alert.
- HK01 and Sing Tao said still photos later showed the man after pulling up his shorts and turning back while holding boxed goods, clearly revealing his face.
Why It Matters
For small retailers in specialist malls, the case has renewed attention on how easily goods displayed near entrances can be targeted, a point also raised by online commenters. The reports also note that theft in Hong Kong can carry a maximum 10-year jail term on indictment, while any indecency-related liability would depend on the specific circumstances.
