Summary
A study released by the Hong Kong Breast Cancer Foundation found that regular mammogram screening was associated with a roughly 14 percentage-point improvement in 10-year survival for breast cancer patients in Hong Kong. The analysis used 6,942 patient records from the foundation's database covering 2011 to 2015 and compared more than 700 asymptomatic screening-detected cases with more than 6,200 cases diagnosed after physical symptoms appeared. Patients whose cancers were found through screening were also much less likely to have late-stage disease and much less likely to require chemotherapy. The foundation said the findings support a territory-wide breast cancer screening programme and advised women aged 40 or above to have a mammogram every two years
