Hong Kong Sends 51-Person Esports Squad to Nagoya Asian Games, Eyes Gold

The Nagoya Asian Games are set to run from September 19 to October 4, 2026, in Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture, Japan, with esports continuing as an official competition for the second consecutive edition. The Hong Kong Esports Association held a launch ceremony on September 8, 2026, announcing that Hong Kong has secured qualification in 10 events — the highest number among all Asian regions — and will send 51 team members, including 43 athletes, to compete in the Games. Key figures within the squad include Ling Kai-wing, who has competed in League of Legends three times, finished fifth in the World Championship and ranked 11th globally, and achieved 1,000 international assists; Chan Cheuk-kit, a silver medalist from the previous Games now competing in Pokémon Unite; and Yu Wing-lim, the first female athlete to represent Hong Kong in an individual esports event in Puyo Puyo. The Pokémon Unite team, consisting of seven members led by captain Lo Kin-sing, has set its sights on the podium, with daily intensive training sessions from afternoon until 11 pm. The association's chairman, Zhou Qikang, expressed optimism about the athletes' conditions while calling for greater investment in talent development, local tournaments, and venue infrastructure.
