Summary
Tottenham Hotspur reached a new Premier League milestone after a 2-0 away win over Chelsea on Sunday. The result took Spurs to 2,001 cumulative points in the competition, making them the fifth club to pass the 2,000-point mark and leaving them ahead of Manchester City on the all-time list
Key Points
- Tottenham won 2-0 away to Chelsea early on Sunday, with the result pushing their all-time Premier League total to 2,001 points
- Spurs became the fifth club in Premier League history to reach 2,000 points, behind Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea
- The victory was Tottenham's first away clean-sheet win over Chelsea since December 1986, and only their second Premier League away league win there
- Their previous Premier League away win over Chelsea came in 2018, when Tottenham won 3-1 after the league's 1992-93 launch
- Midfielder Matheos Fernandes played the full match, recording 121 touches, 91 successful passes from 99 attempts, and five successful tackles
Why It Matters
For Hong Kong football fans, the result adds historical weight to what would otherwise be seen as a single league win, because it reshapes the Premier League's long-term points table and places Tottenham above serial recent champions Manchester City. It also puts the spotlight on Matheos Fernandes, whose all-round display begins to justify the club's £85 million summer signing from West Ham
